Bluescreen - History
'A celebration of all things audio-visual'
For over 4 years now.. bluescreen has continually and successfully run
regular screenings of short films, by local film experimenters from across
the region of the south-west of england..
And as of march 2005 we go monthly!
Based at the cube cinema, bristol, england uk....
bluescreen has built on the success of other past film nights at the
cinema - screentime (short films) & film jamm (super 8/video
mash-ups)!
We show films on virtually any format - vhs, beta, mini dv, dvd etc...
Any subject, style, quality shown -
music promos, shorts, mini features, animations, no budget, low budget,
experimental and interactive - films with live soundtracks and voice
overs too.
Our ethos has always been you bring 'em in and we'll bung 'em on screen.
We try as much as possible to be a censorship free zone!
Filmmakers have now started to make films especially for our next
screenings too.
At bluescreen, we also like to create a party atmosphere...
We have regular DJ's in the bar.. mixing up dub/punk and everything
in-between... we also have screenings/projections in the lounge and bar
areas. thus creating an environment for relaxation and chat!
We even had fireworks and sparklers on Nov. 5th too!
Recently we introduced bluescreen Hi-Fi - expanding the bluescreen ethos
through the music played in the bar. Searching for local music producers
to let us play their tunes in the bar at bluescreen nights.
And the name..bluescreen
Well it comes from the animation special effects technique... which
creates a blue screen composite image.. the blue screen!
bluescreen has also given birth to redscreen, dancescreen, pinkscreen...
name a colour, we'll stick a screen on the end of it!
We have successfully ...
-Put together some best of bluescreen promo tapes, showcased to great
success in the Blackout tent, at The Ashton Court Festival,
Bristol, for the last two years... (2003 & 2004).
-Held an open screen event for Brief Encounters called .Best of the Rest.
(Nov 2003)
-Shown films at other film festivals in Bristol and Manchester (summer
2003)
And plan to do more of the same in the future..
Our nights have become open sessions, whereby filmmakers bring in there
films and we screen them, simple as that.... first in, first on screen.
Open access cinema in action..
We also show bluescreen screened short films before the main feature film
at the Cube Cinema. This opens up audiences to the wealth of local
talent out there..
And the future?
Well anything's possible... come along and find out...
And a big big thank you to all the people who have been involved/helped
out along the way! you know who you are!!
